A few months ago I walked into the Jo Malone shop in Barcelona determined to find a special perfume that was the perfect match for my more mature self. I was tired of wearing scents that everyone would recognize and some would even wear themselves.

Once inside I was met by so many different options, carefully organized in several categories, and I didn’t even know where to start looking. Luckily, I was helped by the nicest employee, who started to try all the different categories on my skin. As if it was fate, she was able to pinpoint right on her first choice, what would be the perfume that I would choose after a few more tries. So, she started with the fruity (secretly knowing that I would absolutely love them), then floral, woody, spicy and so on. And after 10 or 15 different tries I would every time go for the first one.

I have to say that the customer service was absolutely impeccable and I was able to find a perfume that totally matches my personality. Furthermore, because I was buying it during the Christmas campaign, there was a specialist engraving the bottles with the customer’s names, and I was lucky to have my very first Jo Malone perfume personalized with my name.   

Nectarine Blossom and Honey is described on the Jo Malone website as: succulent nectarine, peach and cassis and delicate spring flowers melt into the note of acacia honey. Sweet and delightfully playful. To me, it smells of sweet fruit, fresh and clean; which creates an extremely nice spring or summer scent. Another thing that I love about it is that the smell lingers for a really long time, sometimes I can even smell it on my skin after a couple of days, not to mention how much it lingers on the clothes (maybe even for a week)! This perfume makes me feel mature, feminine, elegant, attractive and oh! so special, because not many people wear it.

Before this purchase I hadn’t even been to any Jo Malone shop and I have to admit that the experience far exceeded my expectations. And most importantly, I am over the moon every time I get to wear my new perfume. I just save it to some more special days so that I don’t run out of it too soon!

Despite it being a premium brand and the prices being a tad too high, I know that I will repeat with Jo Malone in the future!

Hace unos meses entré por primera vez en la tienda de Jo Malone en Barcelona con la determinación de encontrar un perfume que fuera perfecto con mi yo más madura en la que había decidido convertirme. Ya estaba cansada de llevar colonias que todo el mundo conociera o incluso usara habitualmente.

Una vez dentro de la tienda, me encontré con tantas opciones distintas, perfectamente organizadas en varias categorías que ni tan siquiera supe por dónde empezar a buscar. Por suerte, me encontré con una dependienta majísima, que empezó a probar sobre mi piel muchísimos perfumes distintos. Como si tratara del destino, la dependienta fue capaz de encontrar en la primera “Prueba” el perfume que acabaría por comprar al cabo de muchos otros intentos. Así, empezó probando las esencias afrutadas, las florales, amaderadas, especiadas, etc. y después de 10 o 15 intentos, cada vez repetía que mi favorita era la primera opción.

Creo que tengo que mencionar que la atención al cliente es absolutamente impecable, y que gracias a la dependienta con la que coincidí fui capaz de encontrar un perfume que encaja totalmente con mi personalidad. Además, gracias a que fui a comprar durante la campaña de Navidad había una especialista grabando las botellas, y tuve la suerte de poder tener mi primer frasco de Jo Malone personalizado con mi nombre.

Nectarine Blossom and Honey se describe en la página web de Jo Malone como: sabrosa nectarina, melocotón, grosella negra, y delicadas flores de primavera se funden con el aroma de miel de acacia. Dulce y de una alegría deliciosa. A mí me recuerda a frutas dulces, un aroma fresco y limpio, que funciona perfectamente como perfume para primavera y verano. Otra cosa que me encanta es que el olor se mantiene durante muchísimo tiempo, algunas veces incluso puedo olerlo en mi piel al cabo de un par de días, y sobre la ropa hasta semanas después de haberla usado. Este perfume me hace sentir madura, femenina, elegante y atractiva; e increíblemente especial, porque no todo el mundo usa Jo Malone! 

Antes de esta compra ni tan siquiera había entrado a ninguna tienda Jo Malone y tengo que admitir que la experiencia superó con creces mis expectativas, que la atención al cliente está a la altura del tipo de marca Premium del que se trata Jo Malone y que estoy totalmente obsesionada con la fragancia que escogí! Lo único que intento es guardarla para las ocasiones un poco más especiales, y así evitar que se acabe demasiado pronto!

Teniendo en cuenta que los precios son quizá un pelín elevados, soy consciente de que no podré comprar a menudo en esta tienda, pero estoy segura de que repetiré con alguna otra fragancia en el futuro!

• Beauty blender: if you have read any of my previous posts you will know that I am not a big fan of foundations so in a day to day basis I only use concealer. The beauty blender certainly blends the concealer really well, but maybe so much that it takes off part of the product. I honestly get better results by blending with my finger than by using the Beauty Blender. In any case, I need to try it with foundation, where I may not need as much coverage and I won’t mind the loss of some product.  

• Hoola Bronzer: I didn’t have great expectations for this bronzer because I had heard it was very subtle and I was afraid that it wouldn’t show up on my medium tone skin. However, I have been pleasantly surprised with the results. It gives a subtle but genuine bronzed look to the skin. Also, the brush that comes with it is great to contour! It’s the only of these three products that I’ve used daily since I bought it.

• Roller Lash mascara: it’s not that I hate this mascara, but I think there are many other cheaper and better options. To give you an example, I prefer the Maybelline Lash Sensational over the Roller Lash by far. This mascara clumps my lashes and spreads them weirdly, which is something I don’t get with the Lash Sensational. I would definitely skip on this one!  

• Hoola Bronzer: la verdad es que en un primer momento no tenía grandes expectativas con este producto, puesto que había oído que se trataba de un bronceador extremadamente sutil, y pensaba que ni tan siquiera se notaría sobre mi piel. Sin embargo, me ha sorprendido un montón, porque aporta un bronceado a la piel muy natural. Además, la brocha con la que viene es absolutamente genial para contornear. Es el único de los tres que he usado TODOS los días desde que lo compré.

• Máscara Roller Lash: realmente no es que odie esta máscara de pestañas, pero sinceramente creo que hay otras opciones mucho más baratas y bastante mejores. Por ejemplo, me gusta mucho más la Lash Sensational de Maybelline que esta; puesto que deja pegotes en las pestañas y las separa de forma  irregular. Definitivamente no volveré a comprarla.

Sleek Face Form in medium: although I only use the contour and highlight shades I think this kit is a great investment (check out a full review here). The contour has a brown-grey tone that is perfect to fake or sculpt those cheekbones that we all want, and the highlight has a gorgeous champagne tone that is subtle when applied to the skin but can be easily built up to get the intensity that you desire.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara: it thickens, separates, curves, elongates and gives volume to the lashes like no other. Such a great mascara option in the drugstore department.

Maybelline color tattoo in On and On Bronze: Prettiness in a pot! Maybelline color tattoos have the softest consistency, are incredibly pigmented, apply like butter and blend so easily. They also last for hours, especially if you wear primer underneath. The On and On Bronze shade is just a beautiful golden bronze with silver shimmer that I can’t wait to wear with tanned skin because I can envision it looking absolutely divine!

Sleek Blush in Rose Gold: everyone raves about this blush and it has even been compared to Orgasm by NARS. I haven’t tried the latter but I can definitely say this blush gives the most gorgeous but subtle corally pink tone to your cheeks. It has a very soft consistency and is so easy to blend. This shade is incredibly spring and summer appropriate!

Real Techniques Powder Brush: es probablemente la brocha más suave que he probado. Tiene un montón de posibles utilidades, a mí me encanta usarlo para aplicar polvos translúcidos y sellar la base de maquillaje, broncear las regiones de la cara dónde nos daría el sol de manera natural, y mezclar todos los productos de maquillaje que he usado aportando un acabado mucho más uniforme.   

Face Form de Sleek en Medium: aunque solamente uso el contorno y el iluminador este kit es un producto en el que vale la pena invertir (podéis ver una reseña completa aquí). El contorno tiene un tono marrón oscuro tirando incluso a grisáceo que viene genial para esculpir esos pómulos que todos queremos, y el iluminador tiene un color champán que queda súper sutil al aplicarlo sobre la piel pero que podemos aumentar hasta la intensidad que deseemos si lo aplicamos alguna vez más.

Máscara Maybelline Lash Sensational: separa, curva, alarga y aporta volumen a las pestañas como ninguna otra. ¡Es una opción de máscara genial y a un precio irresistible!

Maybelline color tattoo en On and On Bronze: ¡belleza en un frasco! Los Maybelline Color Tattoo tienen una consistencia súper suave, una pigmentación brutal y se aplican y difuminan muy fácilmente. Además, aguantan durante horas, especialmente con una pre-base debajo. El tono On and On Bronze es un bronce dorado con destellos plateados que estoy deseando llevar con la piel un poco más morena porque tengo la sensación de que quedará absolutamente increíble.

Colorete Rose Gold de Sleek: todo el mundo habla maravillas de este colorete y hasta lo han comparado con el Orgasm de NARS. La verdad es que este último no lo he probado pero os puedo decir que Rose Gold aporta un tono rosa coral increíblemente bonito a las mejillas. Es súper suave al aplicarlo y se difumina fácilmente. Además, este color es muy apropiado para la primavera y el verano.

The skin reflects what happens inside our bodies; that is why stress causes so many skin alterations. Therefore, the first and foremost tip on getting good looking skin is having a healthy lifestyle and eating good food. I struggled a lot with acne when I was younger and I realized that avoiding greasy and dairy products worked wonders when I was having the worst break outs. It is also good to follow a skin-care routine that adequates to our skin issues and necessities, therefore, it is essential to figure out our type of skin so that we can buy and use the perfect products for us.  

Today I wanted to share with you my morning and night skincare routines, which I follow religiously as they make my skin feel in its element. Bear in mind that I have dry to combination skin so the products that I use may not work for you, but wait until the end of the post because I have tried to include some goods for all skin types and issues.   

In the mornings I like to firstly cleanse my face using the Avene pain surgrass, which leaves my face perfect regardless of my skin condition before cleansing; if it is too dry, this soap provides enough moisture and if it is too oily it takes it away instantly; always leaving my skin incredibly soft. After a good cleanse I like to moisturize, and for that I use the Neutrogena moisturizing cream. However, having to deal with atopic skin, I also need to thoroughly moisturize the rest of my body and for that I use the Hidrotelial moisturizer, which calms the itchiness and has the most amazing scent ever. Keeping your skin hydrated is critical; therefore, drinking a lot of water is very important besides properly moisturizing.

La piel refleja lo que pasa dentro de nuestro cuerpo; es por esto que el estrés causa tantos problemas de piel. Por tanto, lo más importante para lucir una piel radiante es llevar un estilo de vida saludable y comer sano. Durante mi adolescencia sufrí bastante con el acné y me di cuenta de que evitar comidas grasientas (chocolate, embutidos, etc.) y azúcares conseguía milagros en los peores momentos. También es importante introducir una rutina de cuidado de la piel que se adecúe a nuestras necesidades y problemas, por tanto, es esencial conocer nuestro tipo de piel y así escoger los productos perfectos para nosotros.     

Hoy quería compartir con vosotros mis rutinas de cuidado de piel de día y de noche. Ambas las sigo religiosamente porque hacen que me sienta la piel perfecta. Al tener la piel mixta tirando a seca uso productos adecuados a mi tipo de piel y puede que algunos de los que me funcionan a mí no os funcionen a vosotros; sin embargo, si vais al final del post he dejado mis recomendaciones de productos para todo tipo de pieles y alteraciones.  

Por las mañanas lo primero que hago es limpiarme la cara usando el Avene pain surgrass, que me deja la piel perfecta independientemente de la situación en que la tenga antes de lavarla. Si la tengo más bien seca le aporta suficiente hidratación y si la tengo más bien grasienta extrae todo tipo de grasa; siempre dejando la piel increíblemente suave y fresca. Después de lavarme la cara me gusta hidratarla usando la crema hidratante de Neutrogena. Sin embargo, al sufrir de piel atópica, también tengo que hidratar el resto del cuerpo, para lo que uso una crema de Hidrotelial pensada para pieles atópicas, que me calma mucho el picor y ¡huele genial! Mantener la piel hidratada es esencial, por lo que además de usar crema hidratante es imprescindible beber mucha agua.

After cleansing and moisturizing I like to apply make-up. I recommend not overdoing your make up trying to cover all your imperfections, it is better to let your skin breathe. Also, do your research before buying make-up products and use brands that you trust and know won’t be harmful for the skin.     

Do you know that foundations, that we tend to use to hide our spots and uneven skin, can clog our pores causing more break outs and other skin problems? Therefore, I try to avoid foundations, the heaviest I go on make-up bases is bb creams and only on those days when I need to look more polished and put together, on an everyday basis I can get away with only using concealers. I use the bb cream by La Roche Posay which leaves my skin dewy and even but it can cling to my dry patches, so I have to moisturize before applying it.  

I have always suffered from dark under eye circles (thanks mum and dad for those genes) and although I have tried a few eye creams, they haven’t worked for me. Dark under eye circles show a lack of blood circulation in the area. Cold temperatures tend to increase blood flow, therefore making darkness disappear. There are eye masks in the market that you can put in the freezer and then apply to your eye area, but I use a trick that works just as well. Take two teaspoons and put them in the freezer for 5-10 minutes, then apply them to your dark circle area and you will see their darkness disappear almost instantly. On a regular basis, I try to wash my face using cold water gently massaging my undereye area to achieve the same effect, but less drastically. Do not expect these tricks to be miraculous, there will be some remaining darkness but it can be easily covered using a good concealer. Blue/purple under eye circles will be best covered using coral/salmon colored concealers because of color complementarity. The one that I use is the Avène Stick concealer in coral.  

Después de lavarme e hidratarme la cara me gusta aplicar el maquillaje. Otra gran recomendación es no abusar del maquillaje para tratar de cubrir las imperfecciones; vale más la pena dejar a la piel respirar. Además, es importante investigar un poco sobre las marcas que usamos para asegurarnos de que no van a causar daños en nuestra piel. ­­­­

¿Sabíais que las bases de maquillaje, que usamos para cubrir granos y otras imperfecciones, pueden obstruir nuestros poros causando más brotes de acné y problemas cutáneos? Es por esto que trato de evitar las bases de maquillaje, lo más lejos que voy en cuanto a bases son las bb creams, y sólo cuando salgo de fiesta o tengo que maquillarme para eventos o celebraciones importantes; para el día a día me apaño simplemente con el corrector. La bb cream que uso es la de La Roche Posay, que iguala el tono de mi piel y cubre ligeramente las imperfecciones, además de aportar un efecto jugoso a la piel. Sin embargo, puede adherirse a las zonas secas haciéndolas mucho más visibles, por lo que me gusta hidratar bien la cara antes de usarla.  

Siempre he tenido unas ojeras muy oscuras y aunque he probado algunas cremas para los ojos, no me han funcionado del todo. El tono marrón o azulado de las ojeras muestra una ausencia de circulación sanguínea en la zona. Las temperaturas frías aumentan el torrente sanguíneo, causando así la desaparición de esas tonalidades. Hay en el mercado unas máscaras que puedes poner en el congelador o la nevera y luego aplicarlas sobre la zona de los ojos; aunque yo uso un truco que funciona igual de bien y es mucho más barato: cojo dos cucharitas de postre y las pongo en el congelador durante unos 5 o 10 minutos, después las aplico sobre la zona de la ojera y espero unos 2 o 3 minutos, la tonalidad se rebaja prácticamente instantáneamente. Normalmente, en vez de usar ese truco suelo lavarme la cara con agua bastante fría y hago un ligero masaje con los dedos sobre la zona de la ojera para tratar de aumentar la circulación. No se trata de trucos milagrosos, siempre quedará una tonalidad más oscura en la zona de la ojera pero se puede cubrir fácilmente usando un buen corrector. El mejor color para contrarestar ojeras de tonalidades azuladas o marronosas es el coral o salmón (por complementariedad de colores).

My night routine consists of removing my make-up and cleansing my face to let my skin breathe during my sleep. I have been recently using Bioderma which, being a micellar water, fulfills those purposes perfectly and also reconstitutes the skin barrier. The Vichy purete thermale is also great for removing eye make-up.

At night, I like to double cleanse my face, so after using Bioderma I like to wash my face using the Avene pain surgrass, which leaves my face fresh and ready for bed.

On those days that my skin is feeling particularly unmanageable I like to use Lush fresh face masks to add the moisture, softness and luminosity that it is lacking.

En cuanto a la rutina de noche, lo primero que hago es desmaquillarme y lavarme bien la cara para dejar que la piel respire durante la noche. Recientemente he estado usando Bioderma que, al ser un agua micelar, desmaquilla a la vez que lava bien la cara y reconstituye la barrera cutánea. El desmaquillante Vichy Pureté Thermale también es genial para quitar el maquillaje de los ojos.

Después, me gusta lavarme la cara otra vez usando el Avène pain surgrass, que me deja la piel fresca y lista para ir a dormir.

Únicamente en aquellos días en que mi piel está inmanejable me gusta usar las mascarillas faciales de Lush, para aportar hidratación, luminosidad y suavidad a mi piel.

There is no need to spend a lot in our skincare routines, however, our skin loves a bit of a pamper every once in a while, and depending on our skin issues we should invest in different products. If we suffer from wrinkles, the Algenist deep wrinkle minimizer sounds great as by having alguronic acid, which has been proven to be better than other antiaging ingredients, seems to be able to refill wrinkles in a few days. The Aurelia Firm and Revitalise body oil can be a great option to mitigate dry and dehydrated skin. For a long time I have wanted to try a Chantecaille tinted moisturizer as a lot of people raves about them, and this product sounds just right up my alley (as I've told you I try to avoid foundations). For those of you with acne prone skin, these Sarah Champan spot stickers with salicylic acid can be a great product to use when you are having a break out. Salycilic acid prevents pores from clogging, neutralizes pore bacteria and eliminates dead cells stimulating cell renewal, Therefore products containing this compound are perfect to treat acne, but do not forget to reconsider your diet as well ;)

No es necesario gastar millonadas en nuestra rutina de cuidado de la piel; sin embargo, puede que nuestra piel agradezca algunos cuidados extra de tanto en cuando. Dependiendo del tipo y problemas de piel que tengamos deberíamos invertir en productos distintos. Si sufrimos de arrugas o piel envejecida, el Algenist deep wrinkle minimizer es un minimizador de arrugas que suena genial ya que al contener ácido algurónico, un compuesto que ha sido considerado mejor que otros agentes anti envejecedores, rellena las arrugas en pocos días.  El aceite Aurelia Firm and Revitalise body oil puede ser una gran opción para mitigar la piel seca o deshidratada. Durante mucho tiempo he querido probar una hidratante con color de Chantecaille ya que un montón de gente habla maravillas sobre ellas y como ya os he comentado, es uno de los productos que me gusta usar como base. Para las pieles con tendencia al acné creo que las toallitas Sarah Champan spot stickers con ácido salicílico podrían ser de mucha utilidad. El ácido salicílico evita la obstrucción de poros y neutraliza las bacterias que se encuentran en éstos, además de eliminar las células muertas estimulando el crecimiento de piel nueva y sana; es por esto que los productos con este compuesto son perfectos para tratar el acné. Aun así, no debéis olvidaros de reconsiderar y cuidar vuestra dieta ;)
